National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), a central organization for managing retail payments and settlement systems in India, is a collaborative initiative spearheaded by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Indian Banks’ Association (IBA). It was established under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, to develop a robust payment and settlement infrastructure within the country.

Underlining its commitment to service, NPCI has been incorporated as a “Not for Profit” Company under Section 25 of the Companies Act 1956 (now Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013) to provide infrastructure to the entire Banking system in India for physical as well as electronic payment and settlement systems. The Company is focused on bringing innovations in the retail payment systems by using technology for achieving greater efficiency in operations and widening the reach of payment systems.

The consortium that initially established NPCI comprised a diverse group of ten core promoter banks, including major public sector banks, leading private sector banks, and prominent foreign banks in India. In 2016, the shareholding expanded to encompass 56 member banks, ensuring broader representation across all banking segments. By 2020, this expansion continued with the induction of new entities regulated by the RBI, including payment service operators, payment banks, and small finance banks. These shares were allocated through a private placement in accordance with the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013.

NPCI has made a profound impact on India's retail payment landscape, focusing on creating robust, efficient, and inclusive payment and settlement solutions. NPCI has been instrumental in introducing a range of products that have revolutionized retail payment systems. These include Unified Payments Interface (UPI), RuPay, Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM), National Automated Clearing House (NACH), Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC), Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS), BHIM Aadhaar, and e-RUPI. Each of these products has contributed significantly to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of payment systems in India, ultimately propelling financial inclusion.

NPCI has played a fundamental role in establishing the foundation for India’s rapidly growing digital payments ecosystem, projecting the country onto the global stage.

NPCI has two wholly owned subsidiaries – NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL), established in pursuance of NPCI Board & RBI approval.

NPCI International Payments Limited

Recognizing the significant growth potential and opportunities in the global market, and considering its own proven ability to deliver easy, affordable, and secure payment services, NPCI established its international subsidiary, NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) in April 2020. NIPL is dedicated to facilitating cross-border payments for Indians and also aims to elevate the payment capabilities of other countries by providing technological support, consultancy services, and infrastructure development.

Session Format:

• BoFs will take the form of relaxed panel discussions with active audience participation.
• The discussions will follow the Chatham House Rule. Please read the rules before joining a session.
• The session proposer will serve as the moderator, guiding the discussion to ensure it remains focused and engaging, and encouraging participation from all attendees.

James Powell is a professional Python programmer and enthusiast. He started working with Python in the finance industry building reporting and analysis systems for prop trading front offices. He currently works as a consultant building data engineering and scientific computing platforms for a wide-range of clients using cutting-edge open source tools like Python and React. He also offers a variety of corporate training courses and coaching sessions in all areas of Python.

In his spare time, he serves on the board of NumFOCUS as co-Chairman and Vice President. NumFOCUS is the 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports all the major tools in the Python data analysis ecosystem (incl. pandas, numpy, jupyter, matplotlib, and others.) At NumFOCUS, he helps build global open source communities for data scientists, data engineers, and business analysis. He helps NumFOCUS run the PyData conference series and has sat on speaker selection and organizing committees for over two dozen conferences. James is also a prolific speaker: since 2013, he has given over seventy conference talks at over fifty Python events worldwide.

How to write Stellar Proposals?

Craft an informative and persuasive title that serves as an elevator pitch: Your title is your talk's elevator pitch, shaping the first impression for both the selection committee and the audience. It will be alongside numerous other proposals, influencing track selection on the conference day.

Provide detailed descriptions outlining the problem, solution, and audience takeaways: Ensure your detailed description addresses the problem, your approach to solving it, and the audience takeaway. Use it to showcase your expertise to the selection team. Consider adding an outline at the end, highlighting the topics and their duration.

Attach slides, if available: Adding more details to your proposal enhances clarity for the selection committee. Include slides, if available, even in skeleton form, to provide additional context.

Emphasize your expertise in the speaker bio, showcasing relevant experience: Leverage the speaker bio to showcase your qualifications and why you're suited to deliver the talk. It is completely okay if you are yet to gain speaking experience.

Include a two-minute casual video: Showcase your presentation style and link it to the proposal. This will strengthen your chances of selection.

Here are some tips to enhance the proposal and make it stand out:

• Make your proposal unique by offering fresh insights, innovative solutions, and original perspectives. Avoid repeating previous ideas and plagiarism.
• Tailor your content to diverse audience levels and interests.
• Demonstrate your expertise in the topic with evidence of contributions to the Python community. Mention relevant publications, talks, or projects you would have worked on.
• Proofread your proposal for errors and clarity before submission.
• Ensure that your talk content does not appear promotional. Keep it neutral and objective, discussing both commercial and open-source projects. Cover alternative perspectives and consider all sides of the topic. Use neutral language and avoid bias.
• Adhere to the conference's code of conduct.

She hails from the Moon, the Stars and the Cosmos!

That shouldn't be surprising when someone is a fan of both Star Wars & Star Trek and describes themselves as an explorer. However, while her training with lightsabers and battles against the Borgs seem to have contributed to her becoming a Martial Artist, it only takes so much of her time that among many other things, she is a co-organizer of PyLadies Chicago as well.

The list of "many other things" that you can find on her website, truly is inspiring considering the one thing we all have in common as human beings, is a ticking clock. A lover of cats, a runner of marathons, you can see how "live long and prosper" is not just a dialogue from a series, but a motto that she lives and breathes by.

Kovid Goyal is the creator and ongoing maintainer of dozens of Python projects, with millions of users. Most prominently calibre, the e-book management program and kitty, the GPU accelerated terminal. Many of his Python projects are focused speed, for example html5-parser which is 30x as fast as the Python alternatives. Or kitty which has best in class performance despite being written partly in Python.

We are excited to announce that PyCon India 2024 is back in Bengaluru and the call for proposals is officially open! We are looking for proposals on a wide range of topics.

We look forward to seeing beginner, intermediate, and advanced proposals on diverse topics from speakers of different expertise and experience. To submit a proposal, you don't need to be a veteran who has spoken at a dozen conferences in the past. We are looking for all kinds of people to make our conference genuinely diverse. That's what our community comprises, and that's what this conference's schedule should be genuinely made of.

So, whether you are submitting a proposal for talks for the first time or just want to share what you have been doing with Python for a long time, this is YOUR time to shine!

Guide to writing excellent proposals

As you think about the experiences, skills, and knowledge you want to bring, We would also like you to focus on the proposal you submit. A well-thought-out proposal could mean a chance to be selected and presented at PyCon India 2024. Take your time to go through our team's advice on preparing a kickass proposal that turns heads:

When submitting a proposal, you must fill in the following details.

1. Title Give your talk/workshop a name that accurately describes the session's focus for potential attendees.

2. Description A brief description of the talk/workshop is needed here. Provide as much detail as possible to guide us through your plans to cover the topic. The workshop should last 3 hours, and the talk should last 30 minutes. Hence, a rough timeline detailing how you will spend time explaining the concept would be great.

3. Audience Level At what level of Python and other topic-specific experience or expertise is the workshop aiming for? We realize this may be too narrow for a seminar; for example, if the workshop is aimed at experienced programmers but novices to Python, give it your best shot. Reviewers need to know what level of Python experience is targeted and what level(s) of domain-specific expertise is targeted, such as networking, SQL, database, etc.

4. Prerequisites There may be preferences or requirements regarding your talk/workshop that attendees need to consider before joining in.

5. Video URL Preview videos: Do you discuss your proposal and topics you intend to cover in your talk/workshop, and how do you plan to cover them? Participants are strongly suggested to upload links to their preview videos while submitting their proposals. You can check the guidelines for creating a preview video in the following section.

6. Speaker Info You'll be asked to enter your biography, and the information will be made public. Here, you may include more information for reviewers to complement information about your previous experience. This can include your subject matter experience, past workshops, past speaking events, or anything else to help us understand and gauge your abilities as a workshop presenter. A link to a video would be ideal (to be added in speaker URLs)

Guidelines for creating Preview Video

Preview videos Are you talking about your proposal, topics you intend to cover in the talk, and how you plan to cover them? Participants are strongly suggested to upload links to their preview videos while submitting their proposals. It will be immensely helpful for reviewers to review preview videos and consider them before making final decisions on your talk proposal. Please keep in mind to strictly follow all guidelines for creating your video preview as mentioned below:-

1. Duration & orientation
   A 1-3 minute video to be recorded, preferably in portrait mode.

2. Upload to YouTube
   The video must be uploaded on YouTube. If you want to prevent others from finding it, mark it unlisted. Don't mark it as private or disallow embedding, or we won't be able to see it. ​

3. Only you talking about your talk
   The video should contain nothing except you talking about your talk.​ Try to make a video that holds our attention and helps us understand your talk more deeply.

4. No effects & No Music
   Please do not add background music to your video, use screenshots, or use post-production wizardry; we don't want this to become a video-making contest. If you're going to spend time making something cool, put that into your slides and proposal instead.

5. No Script
   Please do not recite a script written beforehand. Just talk spontaneously as you would to a friend. People delivering memorized speeches (or, worse still, reading text off the screen) usually come off as dull and uninspiring. Consider this a fun activity, and let your heart do the talking. Be vanilla!

6. Check your Audio
   Keep your voice clear and check that it's being recorded properly. Make sure there isn't any background noise. Record this in an empty room without much going on in the background.
